Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka (VGHS/DAC)

Shah Jalal International Airport is the largest and main airport in Bangladesh located in Uttara, 11 miles (17 kilometres) from Dhaka city. A relatively new airport, Shah Jalal International was named in honour of Muslim Sufi Shah Jalal.


The airport is a primary air travel gateway into Bangladesh and the hub of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the country’s national airline. Its strategic geographical location makes the airport an ideal transfer point for leisure and business passengers travelling around Bangladesh. Over 4 million international and 1 million domestic passengers as well as 150,000 tons of freight and mail exchange use Shah Jalal International Airport (DAC) on an annual basis. The airport is well equipped with terminal buildings, hangers, sophisticated radar, a freight village (warehouse) and other modern equipment for handling aircraft. Biman Bangladesh Airlines operates to almost all major cities of the world. International carriers serving Bangladesh include Aeroflot, British Airways, Emirates, Gulf Air, Indian Airlines, Kuwait Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, Royal Nepal Airlines, Saudi Airways, Singapore Airlines and Thai Airways. Regional flight services are managed by Aero Bengal Airlines, Air Parabat, Biman Bangladesh Airlines and GMG Airlines. Regular flights are run between Dhaka and several other main cities. They are economical, and most routes are served at least two or three times a week. Shah Jalal Airport has terminal buildings, hangars, technical areas, a freight village (warehouse), and other modern equipment for handling aircraft. It connects almost all the major cities of the world with Bangladesh. From here, Biman Bangladesh goes to 31 cities on 4 continents.

Shah Makhdum Airport, Rajshahi VGRJ/RJH

Shah Makhdum Airport is a domestic airport serving Rajshahi, the principal city of the Rajshahi Division in Bangladesh. The airport‌ is located at Nowhata, about 10 kilometers away from city center of Rajshahi and named after Sufi saint Shah Makhdum Rupos.

Osmani International Airport, Sylhet VGSY/ZYL

Osmani International Airport in Sylhet, is the third largest airport in Bangladesh after Dhaka and Chittagong. The airport is operated by the Civil Aviation Authority and is served by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the national airline, which at one point earned most of its revenue from this airport.

Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram. VGEG/CGP

Chattogram airfield was built in the year 1940 by the British government during World War II. It was used as a combat airfield by the United States Army and Air Force during the Burma Campaign 1944-1945. After independence it became a domestic airport with the movement of passenger flights in Dhaka-Chattogram Route. This is the second largest airport in Bangladesh. The airport is operated by Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh. In 1990 it became International Airport. The major development and expansion work started in 1998 funded by the Japanese government and the project was completed in December 2000. After that it started journey as M A Hannan International Airport, Chattogram. On April, 2005 it was renamed to Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram. Shah Amanat International Airport is located at Patenga, southwest of Chattogram city at the bank of Karnaphuli River. This is 20 km west of Chattogram port and 18 km south of Chattogram railway station. Domestic and international passenger and cargo flights are operated by the national and international airline operators to and from Shah Amanat International Airport, Chattogram.

Cox's Bazar Airport, VGCB/CXB

Cox's Bazar Airport is an domestic airport in the resort town of Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh. It is in the process of being upgraded to an international airport. The airport serves the residents of Cox's Bazar as well as tourists to the region.
